Day 1 Santiago
Arrival in Santiago. Transfer to the hotel in a private taxi.
In the afternoon, city tour, visiting the historical centre, the Cathedral, la
Moneda (Presidential Palace), Santa Lucia hill, San Cristobal hill, with a panoramic
view over this Big Metropolis and Los Dominicos village. Return to the hotel.
Lodging.
Day 2 Arica
Breakfast. Airport transfer for the flight to Arica. Arrival
and transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, archaeological tour to Azapa Valley,
where we can appreciate various geoglyphs, visit Cerro Sagrado (Sacred Hill),
Pukara San Lorenzo (an ancient fortress) and the archaeological museum of San Miguel,
with its Chinchorro mummies, the oldest in the world (about 7.000 BC). On the way back,
we visit a plantation and taste some typical products from the Valley like olives and
tropical fruits. Return to the Hotel. Lodging.
Day 3 Arica / Putre
Breakfast. City tour of Arica during which we learn about the history
of this old city in the Chilean desert. We visit San Marcos Cathedral and the ex-customs
building, both designed by the famous French Architect Gustavo A. Eiffel, the famous Morro
of Arica (headland) and the seaside with its beaches. In the afternoon departure from Arica
to Putre, on the Andean High Plateau. During this trip of 160 kms, we go from sea level to
3.500 mts a.s.l; taking the old road used since ancient times to bring food from the coast
to the high plateau and vice versa. We cross Lluta Valley, with its geoglyphs, big figures
on the arid hills and see chandelier cactuses in the pre-cordillera. Before we arrive in
Putre we stop at Tambo de Zapahuira for a short visit. Arrival in Putre. Reception in Las
Vicuñas Hotel. Dinner and lodging.
Day 4 Lake Chungara
Breakfast. Tour to Lake Chungara, the highest non navigable lake
in the world at 4.500 mts a.s.l. (13.561 ft). We visit Lauca National Park and its
wildlife, its big volcanoes that are reflected in the waters of the lake and its spectacular
countryside, all together an amazing scenery. We drive to Parinacota where we visit its
church from the XIV century with Indian paintings, representing the Vía Crucis, but where
the Roman soldiers wear Spanish clothes and weapons from the colonial times. We can hear
myths and legends from the past. Picnic lunch. In the afternoon, return to Putre, dinner
and lodging.
Day 5 Putre / Codpa
Breakfast. Tour to Las Vicuñas Reserve, with its beautiful Volcano
Guallatire and village of the same name. We continue to Salar de Surire, where we see
pink flamingos and take a mud bath in the hot springs of the area. Picnic lunch at hot
springs. Arrival via Parcohalla in Codpa at sunset. Dinner and lodging.
Day 6 Codpa / Arica
Breakfast. Tour the village and a characteristic wine cellar where
“pintatani” wine is produced. It has a high degree of alcohol and is unique to the north of
Chile. We continue to Guañacahua in the Codpa Valley where we visit the old church with
its separated bell tower, as is custom in the high plateau tradition. Lunch in Codpa. Visit of
Ofragia and Timar. Descent to Arica, lodging in hotel.
Day 7 Arica / Airport
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport.
